About the publication

A daily stock market letter

Every trading day, after the close, we send one email that tells you how the market finished, which stories actually explain the tape, and what is scheduled for tomorrow.

The same structure, every trading day

Five parts, always in this order, so you know where to look before you open it. The samples on the right come from the most recent letter.

  1. How the market finished

Index closes, the shape of the session, and what the headline print hides.

    From the last letter

    • S&P 500up0.74%
    • Nasdaq 100up1.01%
    • Dow 30up0.48%
  2. The biggest movers

Top ten gainers and losers, with figures, not adjectives.

    From the last letter

    • TERup8.00%
    • HPEup7.36%
    • ECHOup6.80%
  3. The daily recap

The stories that drove the day, each with one line on why it matters.

    From the last letter

Nvidia closes at a fresh high, market cap nearing $6 trillion

  4. Get ready for tomorrow

Earnings, macro data, and scheduled events.

  5. One more thing

The observation that ties two stories together.

How we work

Five rules the desk writes by

They are the reason the letter reads the same on a quiet Tuesday as it does on a limit-down open.

  1. Numbers before adjectives

“Russell 2000 −1.35%, four sectors green” tells you more than “small caps got hit.” We write the first kind of sentence.

  2. We say what is priced, not what will happen

Nothing in this letter is investment advice. We report what the market did and what it is set up to react to.

  3. If we can’t explain a move, we say so

“We do not yet have a confirmed cause” is a publishable sentence. A guess dressed up as a reason is not.

  4. Corrections are made in place and flagged

When we get a figure wrong, we say where, and we fix it.

  5. No sponsored content

No one pays to appear in this letter.
